About me

Hi, my name is Callie Washer. I am a Southern transplant born and raised in Louisiana now living in Denver, CO. When I was pregnant with my first child, my husband decided to sell his business and move us to Denver, Colorado, where he got accepted into a top engineering school. I am a stay at home mom and our children are 2, 3 and 5. To help us out  since we are just living on student loans and love, I started couponing. I use them for everything, like groceries, clothing, home furnishings and restaurants.I am a proud castmember of 3 episodes of TLC’s Extreme Couponing and on the show I was known as the “Cajun Couponer”. But i’m sure my accent wasn’t the only thing at gave away my southern-ness.

This blog is all about saving money, living fabulously frugal without giving up the finer things in life! I can teach you how to save on your everyday purchases so you can spend your money on more fun things! I also post recipes, product reviews and giveaways and any mommy ramblings along the road.

I would love to help. The first thing you need to start doing is collecting coupons. Then follow coupon blogs that share deals for the stores you shop at. What stores do you shop at?

  4. Jayne says:

Hi, I need to start couponing and I just don’t know where to start and how to do it. I had just moved to Thornton and have two growing kids to feed. My husband was laid off for 4 months and just recently found a new job. We are playing catchup on bills and need to save where we can. I was wondering if you could help me get started?

  8. Ann says:

I just wanted to drop you a note to tell you that I just LOVE you and your EC episode! So many of the episodes come off unreal to me, a fellow couponer, but I felt at home when you are on the air. I just thought I’d finally Google you and say thanks and hope to see you around cyber space!

    Hey Callie,
Have a recent couponing experience I would like to share, and get feedback on.
@ Dollar General Store, get to check out, when cashier has rang all my items, I hand over coupons.
Keep in mind, completely legit coupons, one was anewspaper clipped, the other I got in this Store during the shopping trip I am Speaking of, tear pad coupon.. the coupons will not Scan, cashier Literally
Yells for the mánager Approx 5 min, mánager is on the floor chatting with someone (friendly gossip), Finallyshe comes up front, already I am feeling over whelmed with Kids home sick, the line behind me is so Long, mánager States “I am sorry, we are not accepting coupons today”
I reply, “excuse me? What do you mean, today?”. Her response, “that part of our register is not working today, but if you would like to come back tomorrow, we will Gladly accept coupons”.
Considering it was a few items, and I desperately needed, I purchased them. On the rodé home, the more i thought, the more irritated I became. That was $3 I could have saved.
Has this ever happened to.anyone? How could she guarentee the register would be fixed the next day, if by.chance it was really broken?
Thanks . I really needed the vent on that.

    • Extreme Couponing says:

I do not shop at dollar tree with coupons very often. I would personally call the store and ask to speak to the manager and report what happened because I have never heard of a register not being able to take coupons for the day. I know that is very frustrating taking the time to go all the way there and getting frustrated like that. If the store manager doesn’t help I would call corporate and just let them know in a nice manner how inconvenient that was.

  10. Michelle says:

It was Dollar General, but I really don’t use many coupons at either ,General or Tree, it was a quick trip. Thanks for your input
I am going to do as you suggest and will let you know the results. I love couponing but some people can really spoil the moment.

  15. Holly says:

Hi Callie, I just wanted to say hello and say that when I saw your episode of Extreme Couponing, it made me want to keep at it. I was getting so frustrated with couponing and when I would watch the show it always seemed so unrealistic. As one person said above, you seemed the most real and made me feel at home. I was wondering if you can give me some advice on couponing so that I can maximize my savings? Thank you so much and hope you are doing well!

    Holly

    • callie says:

Sure! I would love to help. I never do 1,000 shopping trips like on the show on w weekly basis just because it does take lots of time to plan those trips but I still save just as much money going on smaller trips. What stores do you shop at?

      • Holly says:

We typically shop at Kroger. We’ve tried other stores, but we prefer Kroger the best. Thanks so much, I really do appreciate your help! :)

        • callie says:

I shop at a king soopers which is a kroger affiliate. Does your kroger double coupons? If not you can still get some really good deals. The first thing you want to do is find out when their sales run. Our sales run from wed to tuesday so you now how long you have to get certain deals.

          • Holly says:

Yes, our Kroger doubles coupons up to .50. Our sale ads run from Monday to Sunday each week. I think what I’m having the biggest struggle with is I get a little overwhelmed at the store. I’m looking at my coupons, looking at the sales, I have a certain list that I’m going off of and then I’ll start getting a little overwhelmed because I have people shoving past me, my boyfriend is getting restless and then I can’t think because there are all these distractions. We have done a good job with saving so far but I want to try to figure out how I can save more and how I can get more for free and build our stockpile. We are trying to save for a house right now. How do you get the most for your money at the store? I still am feeling like I’m still paying a lot but we are saving quite a bit but I want to pay under $100. It’s still all so confusing haha!
